I've been to Burning Man several times, the first time I went alone, and discovered that Burning Man was dust and loneliness; it was the best of times. The second time I went to Burning Man, I met Wun Yip, a photographer from Hong Kong, and she and I had a lot of fun taking photos like this one (that's Wun under the sculpture, in a 60mph dust storm). I wrote this story the day I met Wun, when I thought I would never see her again.Burning Man

8 I set up my tent 300 yards away from my truck. The tent was under a wind break made of 2x2 lumber, bungee cords, and a large tarp. One night, in a fierce wind storm, I was woken because my entire tent had collapsed. I was sleeping wearing a dust mask. There was so much dust in the collapsed tent that when I turned on a flash light, I couldnt see. I put on swimming goggles and got outside, and fou

One night, in a fierce wind storm, I was woken because my entire tent had collapsed. I was sleeping wearing a dust mask. There was so much dust in the collapsed tent that when I turned on a flash light, I couldn't see. I put on swimming goggles and got outside, and found out that one of the 2x2's had snapped in the wind. Oh well... so I walked over to center camp and hung out there until daylight. The winds were 70mph.
